Water-based calcium hydroxide pastes offer superior canal penetration compared to oil-based formulations — the vehicle matters as much as the active ingredient. A water-based carrier allows the paste to flow into lateral canals and apical anatomy, maximizing contact with residual biofilm. Easy removal at the next appointment is not a minor convenience — retained calcium hydroxide can interfere with sealer adhesion and obturation quality if not fully eliminated before obturation.
